Our story with Elm began when we started our pursuit of an Elementary school that was willing to understand our son Alexander as a person and willing to challenge him to grow educationally without restraint. We were interested in safety, customization, social emotional support and education. After meeting with our zoned public school and receiving several “by the book” answers with no chance of change, we had the opportunity to meet and learn about the Elm philosophy.
Elm Community Charter school redefines education in a way that changes the traditional education system. The school supports and challenges students in the same breath. One of the reasons we choose Elm was because Principal Walton’s philosophies on the classroom environment and curriculum was tailored to the student and the students abilities. Our son Alexander is an amazing child and educationally was performing above his grade level for specific subjects, hence Elm’s classroom environment was appealing to us.
Elm is invested in the personal growth of students, parents and educators and supplies a support engine that allows us to learn from each other. The culture embodied by the educators at Elm is accepted by each of the children and they live by the culture of community in everything they do. The children at Elm help each other and embody the meaning of humanity. The culture of community is real and not just a statement. Our journey was long and worth it. We never looked back and we are confident we made the right choice.

Elm is the best school in my neighborhood. I’m very happy that my daughter was drawn from the lottery for kindergarten. From the first day I visited this school, the staff was very friendly and professional. Ms. Walton, the Principal was greeting all the students and shaking their hands at the main entrance to welcome them. To me, Elm is not just a school, this is a place where my daughter will receive support and guidance in her academic journey to success.
I can only say beautiful things about Elm, my daughter loves this school! And that is what matters the most. As a mother who had experience public schools with my older son, I know the huge difference. At Elm my daughter feels supported by her teachers, the leaders, and the staff. One of the best parts about Elm is that it has a very supportive counselor team that are there full time! Not only does Elm offer basic classes it also offers art and music class which helps the children be able to express themselves and be who they want to be. With the opportunities offered for my daughter it is simply a joy to be able to see my daughter flourish her abilities at Elm.

We are parents who worry constantly about their little ones, but here at Elm, we do not have to worry anymore because Elm is home away from home. The well-trained staff treat everyone as family. They always welcome the kids at the door with warm hugs, affection, and embraces that make them feel special each day. Every single soul in that school is easy to talk to, no matter what the situation is.
We actually love everything about the school, especially how they deal with kids, not just focusing only on their curriculum, but also focusing on other aspects of their lives such as mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Although the classroom sizes are bigger like other schools, they put the children into smaller groups according to their level of abilities in reading, writing, counting, etc. which is wonderful. It helps to maintain their confidence. They also have a great after school program that provides homework assistance, sports, running club, and other activities to the students.
McLean and Audrey love going to school because they feel safe, loved, supported, and adored by their teachers. We couldn’t ask for a better school for our kids and we are proud to be part of the Elm Community Family.

When my daughter Camila first started her education, we enrolled her into Catholic school. Unfortunately, after several months, we did not feel that she was advancing academically. She was have difficulties with homework and reading. Given the lack of progress in her basic learning skills, we realized that we may have to look for another school.
As a father there is no responsibility more sacred than ensuring his children are safe, and from day one, I can honestly say I felt totally at ease that my Camila was good hands. I soon discovered a big change in my daughter’s homework habits. She was also bringing things up during our breakfast that were discussed in school, and on our drives to school, she would read the street signs and advertisements and I would get such a proud feeling of my daughter’s academic progress. The caring staff at Elm provide a learning environment that distinguishes itself from other school settings that I have witnessed.
Lastly, and my favorite thing is that, the Principal, Priscilla, Assistant Principal, Kayla and Catherine, the Director of Operations, stand outside of the school everyday to greet every child as they walk in for school. The faculty at Elm have made me into a charter school “believer”.

Elm is more than a school to us, it is now an extended family. The teachers and the Principal are all so warm and inviting, and it makes me happy to know my child is in a safe space with people who actually care. As a founding parent of the school, I have seen much growth in my 2nd grade daughter’s performance. She started the school reading on a C level and has now worked her way up to Level O! Elm is just filled with open hearts and teachers who put their all into their work. I look forward to many more years together and can’t wait to send my son to Elm once he is of age.
